Morbidity and Mortality
Deaths
Diabetes was the seventh leading cause of death listed on U.S. death certificates in 2006. This ranking is based on the 72,507 death certificates in 2006 in which diabetes was listed as the underlying cause of death. According to death certificate reports, diabetes contributed to a total of 233,619 deaths in 2005, the latest year for which data on contributing causes of death are available.
Complications
Heart disease and stroke
• In 2004, heart disease was noted on 68% of diabetes-related death certificates among people aged 65 years or older.
• In 2004, stroke was noted on 16% of diabetes-related death certificates among people aged 65 years or older.
• Adults with diabetes have heart disease death rates about 2 to 4 times higher than adults without diabetes.
• The risk for stroke is 2 to 4 times higher among people with diabetes.
High blood pressure
• In 2003–2004, 75% of adults with self-reported diabetes had blood pressure greater than or equal to 130/80 mmHg, or used prescription medications for hypertension.
Blindness
• Diabetes is the leading cause of new cases of blindness among adults aged 20–74 years.
• Diabetic retinopathy causes 12,000 to 24,000 new cases of blindness each year.
Kidney disease
• Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure, accounting for 44% of new cases in 2005.
• In 2005, 46,739 people with diabetes began treatment for end-stage kidney disease in the United States and Puerto Rico.
• In 2005, a total of 178,689 people with end-stage kidney disease due to diabetes were living on chronic dialysis or with a kidney transplant in the United States and Puerto Rico.
Nervous system disease (Neuropathy)
• About 60% to 70% of people with diabetes have mild to severe forms of nervous system damage.
Amputation
• More than 60% of nontraumatic lower-limb amputations occur in people with diabetes.
• In 2004, about 71,000 nontraumatic lower-limb amputations were performed in people with diabetes.
Cost of Diabetes
•$174 billion: Total costs of diagnosed diabetes in the United States in 2007
•$116 billion for direct medical costs
•$58 billion for indirect costs (disability, work loss, premature mortality)
After adjusting for population age and sex differences, average medical expenditures among people with diagnosed diabetes were 2.3 times higher than what expenditures would be in the absence of diabetes.
The American Diabetes Association has created a Diabetes Cost Calculator that takes the national cost of diabetes data and provides estimates at the state and congressional district level.
Factoring in the additional costs of undiagnosed diabetes, pre-diabetes, and gestational diabetes brings the total cost of diabetes in the United States in 2007 to $218 billion.
• $18 billion for the 6.3 million people with undiagnosed diabetes
• $25 billion for the 57 million American adults with pre-diabetes
• $623 million for the 180,000 pregnancies where gestational diabetes is diagnosed

More on Diabetes:
Everyday Should Be Diabetes Awareness Month
November is American Diabetes Month
Everyday should be Diabetes Awareness Day!!!
Thank you my dear friend for posting this as I am reminded why I am so passionate about Beachbody, about their fitness products like P90X, Insanity, Turbo Jam, about Shakeology. I am mostly reminded about my "why". I joined as a Team Beachbody Coach because I want to make a difference in this world. I want to be healthy. I want you, my family and friends to share it with me. I love Beachbody not because the logo is blue but because Beachbody and the American Diabetes Association are working together to STOP DIABETES.
Here is a fact..."According to the American Diabetes Association, regular exercise may prevent type 2 diabetes in those at risk. For those with diabetes, regular exercise may improve blood glucose control, reduce cardiovascular risk factors, contribute to weight loss, and improve well being."
Sounds simple enough, right? But why is it so hard to do??? See this is one reason why we need coaches - health coaches = Beachbody coaches. I don't think it is just genetics, it could also be social pressure, bad habits and lack of education and awareness. It could be a myriad of things. Whatever the reason is, regret is not going to solve the (any) problems either. But this can be a lesson learned not just for me but for all of us. I can't bring back time to wish that my ancestors practiced this and passed it on to my generation. But what I can do is share what I know now...to YOU!!! Be an advocate for change for awareness by educating others that there is a solution to Diabetes and Obesity one person at a time. With proper diet and exercise, one day at a time, we will see results in ourselves, with each other and with our society. And it does not have to be expensive and complicated. Here is the Beachbody Solution. Check it out!
For more information about Diabetes, please go to http://www.diabetes.org/

JOIN ME and 35,000 other coaches in different walks of like including healthcare providers, who are lining up to share on this quest. Become a Beachbody Coach.
Here is my invitation to YOU! Find out for yourself what being a coach is all about. Initial fee is waived, if you sign up before December 31, 2010. Don't delay! You can make a difference now! Click on this link to see how.
Besides Diabetes and Obesity, Beachbody is helping change lives. Listen in on a special call this Sunday, November 7, 2010 and hear from our team of coaches on how Beachbody is helping us also with our finances. Join us on this virtual event.
Again my friends, whatever you decide to wear tomorrow, be it blue or red or purple, please know that there is a more meaningful way to spread awareness that Diabetes is a disease that can kill us or our loved ones if we allow it. We can stop Diabetes by proper diet and exercise. So be healthy, be well and be wise. Partner up with Beachbody and American Diabetes Association. Become a Beachbody Coach.
With so much love,
Filipina
P.S. Please share this information with your friends especially with your loved ones and with others whom may need it. Thank you.

Kathy Smith's Project:YOU! Type 2 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
Q. Is this program suitable for different fitness levels, e.g., for someone in their late 30s with pre-diabetes, and for someone in their late 60s with type 2 diabetes? Can this program be tailored for both age groups? - Q. Is this a good diet for weight loss?
- A. This program was developed as a weight loss program, with a safe loss of 1 to 2 pounds per week. This program was developed in conjunction with doctors, Certified Diabetes Educators (CDEs), and the American Diabetes Association.
- Q. Can the program work for a family in which you might have one member with diabetes?
- A. The leading diabetes researchers no longer recommend special diabetic meals that rely on artificial sugars and substitute foods that the rest of your family won't eat. It turns out that the best way for people with diabetes to eat is the same way you eat for a healthy life—with real food, in accordance with tailored guidelines. This is a healthy eating program for losing weight. People who do not have diabetes can use it to lose weight as well, but if their goal is not to lose weight, they may want to adjust their portion sizes and calories.
- Q. Have the meals been designed for people with diabetes?
- A. Yes. Specific guidelines have been used to develop meals for people with type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes.
- Q. When can we start selling the program?
- A. On October 24, your Coach Web site was set up to accept preorders. Customers can provide their credit card numbers to reserve a copy of the program. When the program becomes available and ships, then the credit card will be billed.
- Q. When will the program be available to everyone?
- A. The product is now available at http://beachbodycoach.com/avibrantlife Go to Shop or search for Kathy Smith.
- Q. Is there any documentation to show a doctor/hospital/health center that we are endorsed by the American Diabetes Association?
- A. The American Diabetes Association has provided us with a letter detailing their relationship with Beachbody® and support of this program, which is posted below under the healding "Kathy Smith's Project:YOU! Type 2™ Beachbody/American Diabetes Association"
- Q. Will there be an infomercial for this program?
- A. There are no plans for an infomercial at this time.
- Q. How much will the program retail for?
- A. The retail price will be $99.95. Save 25% if you sign up as a coach before purchase.
- Q. How should a Coach talk about the program and what his/her role is?
- A. Our Beachbody Coaches have the unique opportunity to connect people who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes to this revolutionary new lifestyle program. Project:YOU! Type 2 is the first all-in-one solution to help manage diabetes, reduce the risk for diabetes complications, and help people take control of their lives! This is a big step for Beachbody as it is the first time we have received this kind of support from such an important organization. This program epitomizes the role a Beachbody Coach plays in terms of helping people achieve their goals and live healthier lives.
- Q. Are there any exercise restrictions for people with diabetes?
- A. As with any other fitness program, it is important that you consult your physician before starting any physical activity. If you have diabetes, you need to consult your physician since exercise affects your glucose levels, and ultimately could change your medication dosage.
- Q. What other Beachbody fitness products are safe for people with diabetes?
- A. At this time, the only Beachbody program approved by the American Diabetes Association is Kathy Smith's Project:YOU! Type 2.
- Q. Where did you come up with your recipes for the program?
- A. The recipes and meal plan were developed in conjunction with doctors, Certified Diabetes Educators, and the American Diabetes Association. You will find many of your favorite foods in the Good2Eat! Cookbook, such as pasta, peanut butter, grilled ham and cheese, stuffed baked potatoes, sweet berries, and juicy beef kabobs. The cookbook also breaks down all the nutritional information by calories, carbs, fats, and proteins.
- Q. Will the American Diabetes Association be promoting this program on their end? Or is the program only available from Beachbody?
- A. The American Diabetes Association has communicated it to their internal staff so that they are aware of the program when people call in to ask questions. Beachbody is working with the American Diabetes Association to be able to release promotions to their database, but for now, Beachbody Coaches are getting the first opportunity to sell the program.
- Q. Will the workout also be good for people with fibromyalgia?
- A. A person with fibromyalgia, as with any other medical condition, should first check with his/her doctor.
- Q. Can I or should I stop by my local American Diabetes Association and sign them up as Coaches?
- A. Please note that due to our close business relationship, no chapters of the American Diabetes Association, either local or national, may become Beachbody Coaches. Our alliance with the American Diabetes Association is a big step for Beachbody as this is the first time we have received major support from such an important organization. In order for us to maintain our strong relationship, it is critical that all Coaches follow specific guidelines to help answer questions about the program. Please refer to the "Kathy Smith's Project:YOU! Type 2™ Beachbody/American Diabetes Association" guidelines posted below or in the FAQ section of your online office.

New Shoes to Fill
I live to become a better human being each day, or at least I know I try. And no matter how much curve balls I get in life (even though I am not quite the ball player) I would constantly reinvent myself just so I can at least try to hit that ball. I strive to live healthy and my passion is to share my adventures with the world in hopes that I can touch at least one person to do the same for himself/ herself.
I have learned that nothing in life is permanent especially when you reach a certain goal. You have to keep at it, keep moving forward and just enjoy it, appreciate what you have and be grateful for what it is. Good or bad, favorable or not, there is always a reason behind it. Most of the time we won't know this reason until later. But based on my experiences, it somehow always works out for the best in the end. That's probably because there is always a bigger calling, waiting to be answered.
After taking a step back, I realized that sometimes we just have to step out of those shoes we put ourselves in especially when they don't work anymore. Maybe someone else gave us those shoes to put on for a specific reason. But even shoes need to be replaced somehow to continuously maintain good stance and posture and avoid injuries. It is not easy to let go of something we are comfortable with and something we can call our own and identify with. I am learning to do that now. I just learned to part with my old shoes, got a new pair, and I am moving on to a new leap with them and exploring new territories. How about you? How are your shoes?
I've recently become an Independent Team Beachbody Coach. It is working great since it helps me move on with my personal fitness goals as well.
As a Team Beachbody Coach, my mission is to promote a healthier way of being by living A VIBRANT LIFE through proper exercise and diet using Beachbody products and services.
I am fortunate enough to be able to share this with my husband, who is also a Team beachbody Coach, and my daughter who loves to work out with Beachbody products with us. My goal is to be able to spread this wealth to everyone who wants to be happy and healthy and capitalize on this passion to provide for themselves and their family and perhaps enough to sustain them with a residual income.

INSANITY® FAQs
A. The Insanity diet is very restrictive and not meant to be done for a long time (it's a two-month plan). It was set up for weight loss for our test group, who all began with some weight to lose. Anyone coming off of P90X or something similar should alter the diet to suit their needs because their body composition--for the most part--will be far more athletic at the beginning.
We've left the "additional food" section open ended for just this reason. However, once someone has gone through rounds of X or equivalent they are generally at a point where they'll do their own dietary calculations anyway.
When you look at the X diet you see a plan that's designed to teach you how to eat for athletics. It varies over time, attempting to follow the changes in your body composition. Once you graduate the X, there should not be much need for outside diet plans, unless they're for variety. You could use the Insanity diet for this, but alter your calories towards your own goals and using what you're already learned.
Keep in mind that matter what diet you choose, at the highest levels of performance you always have to do your own trial and error. There is no one diet right for everyone. Nowhere is this as apparent as during athletic endeavors. By making tweaks to our diet we will always find individual differences in the ways certain foods affect us. I don't know any two athletes that eat the same way, exactly. There are some large-scale brush strokes that are nutritionally similar, after which it becomes individual.
A. The weight training workout is just a bonus and was not part of the original Insanity plan. Shaun wanted to make a weight training workout because he lifts weights. Not during his rounds of Insanity but in between. I would not use it during your first round of Insanity but if you wanted to work it into the second go-round for more muscle growth you could.
For Xers worried about losing mass they could also work it in. Adding it once per week to the schedule should still allow Insanity to work its magic will minimizing muscle atrophy. This is not a huge concern, however, as the muscle atrophy incurred over eight weeks of Insanity will be minimal and offset by fitness gains that will allow you to push harder during your next round targeting muscular hypertrophy, leading to greater gains than you made prior.
A. You might lose some muscle mass but you'll make fitness gains that will increase your capacity for improvement, so when you head back to P90x or whatever else you're doing, you should quickly catch up with, then surpass, any previous limits.
It's the basic theory of cross-training only it's, like, max-cross training.
Q. So I'm considering starting Insanity soon as the max interval training concept is really appealing to me but I have one thing giving me doubt as whether I really should. P90X works all areas of the body w/equipment required. Insanity however requires no equipment which is a great advantage but I don't see how you can work your back in the program whereas P90X uses a pullup bar. Insanity has pushups in the program to develop your chest but if you only work your front eventually they will be more developed than your back muscles and create a hunch. I can't think of any back exercises you can do w/your bodyweight besides pull ups which are non-existent in the program. I have not seen the Insanity videos yet but are there workouts in there that incorporate your back to balance everything?
A. None of the strength work in Insanity will build the type of muscular imbalance you are describing. It uses floor movements in a way where all of the upper body muscles are stressed but it's not a muscle building program per se. It's a muscle strengthening program, especially static strength that comes from floor work, but there is no targeted hypertrophy like you get in Tony's programs. It's cardio based, meaning that it targets various energy systems (VO2/max, lactate threshold, anaerobic and aerobiv efficiency). It never targets muscle hypertrophy over the eight weeks, though there is an "extra" weight training workout that you can use as an option. But the test group did not do this, so it's not part of the Insanity schedule. Depending on your goals, you may want to keep doing some X upper body work. For most of us, and eight week cycle that leaves hypertrophy out of the equation will be fine as we'll improve our base fitness, increase our workload capacity for further rounds of hypertrophy.
Q. Why doesn't Insanity target the specific muscle group I want targeted?
A. Insanity uses floor movements in a way where all of the upper body muscles are stressed but it's not a muscle building program per se. It's a muscle strengthening program, especially static strength that comes from floor work, but there is no targeted hypertrophy like you get in Tony's programs. It's cardio based, meaning that it targets various energy systems (VO2/mas, lactate threshold, anaerobic and aerobiv efficiency).

The Science Behind the Shakeology® 3-Day Cleanse
(If you missed the webinar, The Shakeology® 3-Day Cleanse Phenomenon Explained, here is the email newsletter version by Steve Edwards the Director of Results for Beachbody)
I like to call the Shakeology 3-Day Cleanse a "performance cleanse." This is because it was designed to be done with a workout program. Let's take a look at how this differs from other cleanses, how to tailor it to your needs, and what to expect if you or your customers decide to try it.
First of all, it's not a true cleanse. It's a calorie-restricted and nutrient-dense diet plan. Traditional cleanses contain very few calories and nutrients. Compared to the much more popular Master Cleanse, it's like an all-you-can-eat buffet. Traditional cleansing diets are done to rid your system of toxins and bring it into homeostasis. They also contain a spiritual aspect. This process can take a long time, which is why you may have seen coworkers walking around the office in a zombie-like state for weeks on end—swilling a strange concoction of lemons and maple syrup.
The Shakeology cleanse is nothing like that. Depending on how you decide to do it, you'll be eating frequently and consuming between 800 and 1,200 calories per day, and it could be even more should you feel the need. The point of this cleanse is not calorie restriction, per se—it's nutrient efficiency. The aim is to get the most nutrients possible into the fewest number of calories. The goal is to put all of these calories to use as a part of your exercise program, to rid your body of undigested foods and toxins, and to bring your hydration levels into homeostasis. The result you're after is not weight loss—though it will likely occur—but for your body to be running more efficiently. This should make you feel lighter and more energetic, even though you're doing an exercise program.
How It Works
Your eating structure doesn't change. You still eat every few hours while you're awake. Each meal should have a balance of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and fiber. And while you're not eating as much food as you'd normally eat, your calorie-to-nutrient ratio is extremely high. This means that you shouldn't restrict the actual nutrients you're getting by too much, so activity can continue as normal.
We recommend you try to keep your shakes to just Shakeology. Adding fruits of any kind, or seeds (for fat and fiber), or the Shakeology Fiber supplement, can and should be done as you see fit.
Ditto for your one solid meal—a salad. As we all know from any salad bar, the definition of salad can be varied. The goal of the salad in the plan is to keep your calories coming from natural sources (no artificial ingredients should be added, including artificial salad dressing). Aside from that, you can add ingredients as necessary. Keep your meat intake to four ounces or less, but add veggies, seeds, nuts, fruits, and legumes in quantities to satiate you.
The goal of the Shakeology 3-Day Cleanse is to optimize your performance. You want to eat enough to fuel your day AND your workout. The foods you're eating are so high in fiber and nutrients that it's virtually impossible to overeat. You'll be consuming so much fiber, along with enzymes and digestive aids, that your body's ability to flush excess foods quickly will be at its peak.
What to Drink
Water, of course, is recommended in quantity. This is vital to any cleanse, because one of your goals is to bring your hydration into homeostasis. When your electrolytes are out of balance—the main problem we have is salt—you often retain water outside of your cells. This situation, which we refer to as retaining water, is cured by drinking more water. As the excess salts are diffused, your body begins to hydrate your cells (using sodium as it should be used) and flush the water held outside the cells. So, oddly enough, you drink water to eliminate water retention.
Sodas, alcohols, juices, etc., should be eliminated entirely during a cleanse. Coffee and tea, which are diuretics, should be minimized at the very least and eliminated if possible. Again, performance is the key, so if you need a cup of Joe as a pick-me-up, go ahead. Just use only as needed, and don't use additives. Eliminating sugar and chemicals is vital. However, do not use energy drinks or soda for this purpose, including the ones with artificial sweeteners. Coffee drinkers may find that switching to black tea during a cleanse will give you the energy you're looking for with less upset. Coffee's acidic nature can heighten the effects in a negative way during your cleanse.
Why You Won't Lose Weight
I should say why you might not lose weight, but I wanted to get your attention. Most people will lose some weight during a cleanse, but that is not the goal. Those with a lot of undigested gunk in their systems will lose weight as it's flushed out. Those of you who are properly hydrated and already eat well are less likely to lose. For those of you who need to lose weight, take heart: you are setting up your system to use nutrients more efficiently and improving your ability to lose weight through structured diet and exercise. So while you may not lose much on the cleanse, you'll be more prepared to lose weight later.
Another reason why we don't always lose weight on cleanses is due to a stress hormone called cortisol. Restricting calories is stressful to the body, and it reacts by releasing cortisol. Cortisol is performance-enhancing in the short term, but if you somehow keep your body stressed for long periods, it creates havoc in your system and can cause you to doggedly hang onto weight in a type of survival mode. We don't want this to occur, which is one reason the Shakeology 3-Day Cleanse is short. It's important not to remain in a highly calorie-deficient state for long periods of time, especially when you are trying to exercise hard.

Starting Over
By: Coach Filipina
Around the same time last year, Spring 2009, my husband and I committed to working on getting healthy and fit. We choose the P90X program. We completed the P90X program and had some good results. I started at 162 and I lost about 8 lbs., 2 inches from my waist and gained some muscle tone during our first round. Starting at 227lbs, Vince lost about 14 lbs and 3 inches from his waist. He also gained some muscle definition esp. in his shoulders and arms. We both felt great and my skin also cleared up from Psoriasis. By the beginning of summer, we were convinced that living healthy is definitely how we want to live our life so we decided to join Team Beachbody's coaching program and committed to helping others who are interested to do the same.
In mid-July, we were excited to do the second round of P90X. Unfortunately, it didn't go quite well as we planned. We later realized that allowed ourselves to lose focus and distracted by other things. Although we were managing from day to day, we didn't quite know how to handle the emotional stress brought by increasing financial difficulties of being laid off from my job and battling custody issues with my husband's children from his ex wife. The latter took a toll on us the most. With emotional stress, we allowed ourselves to get carried away and lose our focus on our overall fitness. We began to indulge again with food and just past time with watching the tube to forget even for just a moment. With the emotional stress came physical weakness because we succumb to it. We definitely proved the law of Physics: "A body at rest stays at rest. A body in motion stays in motion." Vince started getting pain again on his knees and arms that he had to be on physical therapy. I, on the other hand, flared up with Psoriasis. Never fails when my body is under stress especially with the change of weather. Somehow I also developed tendonitis in my arm and could not lift a thing. We both had to take cortizone shots and advised by our doctor not to work out. The doctor also said that the only cure for tendonitis is rest. Not good for Vince since his day job requires manual labor. Seeing my husband in so much pain is unbearable especially I couldn't do much for him. Being unhealthy and feeling helpless is certainly the worst feeling ever...perhaps like quicksand.
We had to decide and act fast! Vince and I wanted nothing more than to get back to being healthy again and feeling great. We realized that life situations will always be there and the only thing that can make us successful is to continue to check our focus and keep our eye on our ultimate goal while working on the best way to reach our goals and achieve balance.
In December 2009, we decided to take little strides, 15 to 30 minute walks at least once a day for each of us. That was easy since we just got a puppy for Christmas. We ended up walking 15 to 30 minutes 2 - 4 times a day with Leuca, our puppy. It was a great commitment not only for us but we also got our daughter and our dog to exercise. The walk became a routine for all of us and we've been keeping it up each day. This led us to find other alternatives to exercise. Finally we decided to explore and try other Beachbody programs to get back to working out. Vince tried out Slim in 6 but later moved on to the Power 90 program with me. During the winter, I had a minor slip and fall accident and landed on my tail bone. No major injury but it kept me again from working out. Vince continued the Power 90 program with modification since his arm was not yet completely healed. I on the other hand was itching to play" again.
Towards the end of March, a couple of the Team Beachbody founding coaches posted an invitation to do the Shakeology 3-Day Cleanse on April 5th. Upon seeing this, I decided this would be my opportunity to get back on track and jump start my momentum. Vince was on call for work and could not do it. So my daughter and I decided we joined the cleanse. Immediately after making the decision to do the Shakeology cleanse, I went food shopping and got the essentials that we needed. The cleanse was successful!!! My 19 year old daughter lost 4.4 lbs and I lost 6.6 lbs by the end of the 3 day cleanse April 7th. My final weigh, the morning of April 8th was 151.2 lbs. I was super excited!!! Vince was thrilled and wanted to do the same so we decided to do another Shakeology 3-day cleanse on our own on April 23rd to 25th. Once again we were successful. This time I lost a total of 6 lbs. and 1 inch off my waist and 2 inches off my hips. Amanda lost 6.2 lbs. while Vince lost. 7.4 lbs and an inch off his waist. We were definitely re-enegized. It was jsut the boost we needed. Taking advantage of this momentum, I have recommitted myself to getting my self fit by continuing to loose weight. I reaccessed my goals and evaluated what program will help me get back. On April 26, Monday, I started my commitment to work my way up to my fitness goal, starting with SLIM in 6 with Debbie Siebers. We all made the decision and commitment to do the same. I am so happy and excited on our way to a great health and to doing it as a family!!!
Last year in April, I was at 162lbs. when I started P90X. Now I am at 152.8 lbs. and starting over with Slim in 6. I know I have a long way to go to reach my goal but if I continue to work my way up the fitness ladder and just keep "Pushing Play", I know I will get there. I can't wait to share my progress with you this coming 6 weeks. (Please stay tune and check out our blog.)
Thank you for reading my story and I hope somehow it inspired you to keep on moving forward as today is always a good day to start, do over or move on to the next level.
See you all at WOWY (Work Out With You, Team Beachbody Online Gym) and remember to just "push play"!
Cheers!!!

Excuse Me While I Make Excuses
Yeah, it's been a while. It's been a while since I posted an entry. I could say check out my other blogs but I won't. The truth is I haven't been motivated to walk towards my journey to physical fitness, or to drive to financial stability, let alone write about it. I guess I can come up with so many excuses. Well that's easy. It is almost automatic...Too difficult. I'll do it later. I am tired. Maybe I am depressed. Lost my job. Can't seem to find one. Let me try something else. What's the point. Not sure. This is not me. These words run through my head everyday but why can't I just do something about it. I'm stuck! For now. I can go on. Now if I can only reprogram this automatic-excuses mode to automatic-motivation mindset. And that's the truth!
Excuse me while I make excuses.
I admit sometimes I get bogged down with other things which seem important at the time only to find out that I procrastinated again to get what I truly want and deserve. The truth is if I can only bare down to my skin again in front of the mirror and force myself to look at the imperfections in my body, embrace them and just own them again as I did when I was successful and on track, then I can just start over and move on. That's it! Take the first "before" photos and get on with the program. P90X?. Maybe not now. The journey continues as soon as I get going.
Excuse me while I get rid of my excuses.
I do have plenty. It may take a while. Sure thing. Vince, my husband hurt his arm somehow and is on physical therapy. I actually did too but not sure how. Doctor said it's just tendonitis and I need to rest it. Cortizone. MRI. No working out. Bummer. I guess it's true... you never know what you have until you loose it. Or you never know what you'll gain until you really loose it. I mean the pounds.
Excuse me while I turn these excuses around to serve me better.
I need to get healthier. Vince and I will get back on track towards our journey to physical fitness. We can do a lighter exercise to get started not as extreme as P90X. We'll start with Power 90. We'll keep up and motivate each other again. Yeah that is what we'll do. In that case we'll have an excuse to go to the beach and show of a beachbody abs:-)
Excuse me while I look at my new Beachbody!

Ready, Set....FAST! Forward.
FAST!
Day 1 - Saturday. We were psyched. Well at least, Amanda and I were. You see our family loves food especially breakfast. We usually go our way out to make breakfast especially on weekends. Vince usually would make homemade wheat pancakes and turkey bacon. Some days we prepare Vincent's special french toast or my Veggie and Egg white Fritata or sometimes just eggs over medium with turkey bacon and home fries. Oh yeah... fresh brewed coffee. "Don't you even mess with my coffee. Don't you know the rules?" Cried the Marine with a stern voice. Orange juice. Who doesn't love that? And of course, of all the weekends to choose from, we picked the one with the North Eastern Winter Storm creeping in. Well, we figured a 3 day weekend would be best to do a fast so we can focus. Hmp! We forgot Murphy's law. We were not completely prepared.
Oh we continued on with the program. One scoop of Beachbody 2 Day Fast Formula mixed in the blender with water and ice. Frostee! Once for breakfast, another for lunch and once again for dinner. Plenty of fluids, mostly water throughout the day. Coffee for the former active duty Marine. Tea for the ladies. We had no choice but do light activity as we started feeling light headed. That was definitely our body talking...feed me! LOL. No problem there, we had rented movies to keep us occupied and went online to check in with our Facebook and Twitter friends. Only issue was my husband was called to work that afternoon. But being the trooper that he is, he continued with the program. I prepared my husband's portions to go while Amanda and I continued the fast at home. The snow finally subsided but Vince ended up working until the night. When Vince got home, we had decided to make the most of the snow and went sledding. Amanda's boyfriend, Dralle, came by too to join us. He was given fair warning. No food!
We had sooo much fun in the snow even our puppy dog Leuca. Much later in the night, the adrenaline ran out. Funny thing, even Leuca was feeling it even after her dinner. Poor Dralle. Vince was chewing him up, about being able to eat. I was cranky too. We felt bad we couldn't have dinner so we let Amanda heat up some left over Chinese food from the night before for Dralle to feast on. Did you know that heating up leftover Chinese food and smelling the aroma when you haven't eaten all day smells like filet mignon and lobster tails? You know, the kind that is served at high end 5-star restaurant's menu? Shhhe! That was not funny at all! But poor Dralle. And that's all she wrote.
Needless to say, that was a pretty rough start but we made it to the first day without really killing each other. Well, barely. LMAO Vincent's brain completely skipped breakfast and went on to thinking... dreaming of a juicy Cheeseburger! LOL Amanda and I just laughed our way listening to my funny husband. (see video above:-)
Day 2 - Sunday. Oh Great! It's almost over!!! NOT! It was the longest Sunday ever. Later in the afternoon Vincent's nephew stopped by. Fair warning was also given. By this time, Vincent was home, tired and starved. PIZZA???!!! It was about 5pm. I think, I really didn't know since my stomach won't let me think. Vincent had to eat. I was over the fence with it and felt bad for not finishing the cleanse. Okay I was getting light headed and caved in. Only Amanda made it without eating until 7pm that night. She made it for 48 hours without eating and we forced her to. I got sick immediately after the first bite. I should have stopped but I ate. I had a salad and a slice. Amanda only had salad. Yeah you guessed it. Vince devoured that pizza. Nah! He only had 2 slices. Well he deserved it after shoveling snow all day and then some. (The End)
FORWARD.
Morale of this Story: HONESTLY. If you are not mentally, emotionally and physically prepared to embrace gradual change in your daily routine for even just 2 days, DON'T DO IT! Do not assume that a certain product you will be using during the fasting will do all the work. That was our mistake. I thought how hard could this be, I've done other cleansing regimens before that took longer than this? I was wrong because we were not prepared for it. None of us did our homework. We taught reading the label of the nutrition supplement, Beachbody 2 Day Fast Formula, we used was enough to jump in. Wrong. But a common misconception!
We later realized that while using a special product like Beachbody 2 Day Fast Formula is good and guaranteed to work, it will ONLY be effective if we do it right. Individual result varies of course because every body is built differently. Everyone has a different metabolism from another and a different capacity to adjust to various conditions. Fasting is definitely cleansing and there are so many ways to do it successfully. One way is to use the Beachbody 2 Day Fast Formula but it will only work for the ones who do it right. We cannot eat whatever we want and decide to just drop everything and fast for 2 days and then go back to eating the same way again. Very unhealthy and a set up for failure. Our efforts however were not completely in vain, we learned a few valuable lessons to help us in our next fast or cleansing regimen and in accomplishing our ultimate goal:
- Preparation is key. By definition, fasting is an act of abstaining from some food, drink or both for a period of time. It has been done by many as it is truly cleansing and usually with some form of faith attached to it. It is important to prepare yourself, body and mind, to do it properly regardless if you use a special product, such as Beachbody 2 Day Fast Formula, to sustain the nutrition your body needs during the fast or not. So next time, you may want to ask these questions:
- Are you really ready to fast? Abstain completely from eating or just partially?
- Is your body and mind prepared for it?
- Did you prepare all the sustenance you need to complete your fast?
- Who will be supporting you before, during and after the process?
- What do you need before, during and after the fast? How long would it be?
- Now how will you do it? Are you using a product, such as Beachbody 2 Day Fast Formula, to supplement the nutrition your body needs while you are fasting?
- Listen to your body. Your body knows what is right. It gives us cues on what it needs. Being light headed means you need more caloric intake. Dizziness may mean your sugar level could be low. Constipation may mean you are withholding something emotionally or you are too uptight. You may need more fiber. Lethargic or headaches could mean that you are dehydrated. Hydrate! And listen to your body. Know your body. Understand what your body needs and how it should be supported before, during and after the cleanse. Do not compare your body to others. You are beautiful in your own way. Remember you are different than anyone else for a reason, so do not assume your body will react to the fast the same way as another would.
- Know yourself. Know your "WHYs?". Know your motivation. Know your limitations. Know your strengths and weakness. Plan the fast around it.
- Why are you doing the fast?
- Are you cleansing to start a better way of living?
- Is it just a whim or a challenge?
- What is your goal? Short term? A wedding to go to?
- Long term? To live a vibrant life?
- What is your ultimate purpose?
- Have a plan or a blueprint. Planning is important. It has to be done timely. Ideal if done in writing. Include what you need before, during and after the fast program. Summarize the "do's" and "don'ts". It will help you take on the journey with confidence and certainty. A good plan will help you better understand and deal with the the journey no matter what obstacle/s go your way. You might want to consider the following items:
- List out what you will need for the fast including the supplements and supplies you will need. For example:
- Water! Have plenty of fresh, clean water before, during and after the cleanse.
- Beachbody 2 Day Fast Formula during the fast.
- Beachbody Exercise program for after the fast to sustain your goals
- Beachbody's Shakeology, the healthiest meal replacement
- Food shopping list for the days before and after the fast. Include fruits and vegetables rich in water content than carbs like lettuce, cucumber, lime and lean meats preferable white meat like turkey or chicken breast and fish. (You want to make sure you ease your body getting into and out of the fast.
- Organize yourself. Clean your pantry and your refrigerator. Dispose of anything that is not suitable and will not support your ultimate goal esp. the fast. Shop early and make sure you have everything you need at least a day or two before you start.
- Plan your exercise regimen and activities during the fast. Since a lighter activity is ideal, you might want to try catching up on reading a book, playing board games with loved ones, floor exercises like stretching and meditation. Keep it light. Other activities like Yoga, Tai Chi or heavier exercises may lead to exhaustion and dehydration since you will be sweating more.
- Having a list of affirmation and reciting them and focusing on them will help a lot. If you are a Tony Robbins' fan you can do a breathing exercises and incantations. Similar inspirational or motivational figures also teach various methods of relaxation.
- Visualize your outcome. Have a mental picture of what you want.
- Meditate.
- Breath.
